What is POTD?
Product of the Day is our way of putting a spotlight on one launch a day that we think has earned it. It gets promoted across our channels, it gets in front of affiliates who are looking for their next promo, and it carries some weight in this space because we don’t hand it out lightly.
It’s free and there’s no fee or queue to join. The only thing you have to do is tick the eligibility option in the product editor so we know you want to be considered.
Why we run it
Two reasons.
The first is that our affiliates need somewhere reliable to look when they’re deciding what to promote. If POTD went to whoever asked loudest, it would be worthless to them inside a month. Keeping the bar high is what makes the badge mean anything.
The second is customer volume. Every new buyer coming into the ecosystem is someone who might buy from you next time, or from another vendor, or from the affiliate who introduced them. More customers in circulation is good for everyone on the platform, and POTD is one of the levers we have to push that number up.
First step: opt in
POTD isn’t automatic. You have to tick the eligibility option inside the product editor when you’re setting your product up. If it isn’t selected, your product won’t come round to the team at all, no matter how well it’s performing.
It takes two seconds and it costs nothing. It just means we’re only reviewing vendors who actually want the spotlight.
What we look at
Your account
We start here. Your account should be in good standing with no negative balances sitting on it.
We’re also looking at whether you’re supporting what you’ve already sold. Buyers getting answers, refunds being handled, affiliates being paid on time. If our team is chasing you every week to get those things done, that’s going to show up when your name comes round.
None of this is a permanent black mark. Vendors clear up a balance or tighten their support and they’re back in the running for the next launch.
Your history
Previous launches tell us a lot. High refund rates are the main thing we’re watching, because refunds cost affiliates their commission and they cost buyers their trust. A product with solid retention says more about you than any sales page can.
Your sales page, after approval
Our compliance team does a great job of checking sales pages before they ever go live. What we find, though, is that some product owners make changes to their page after that review has been done and approved.
The kind of thing we mean:
- Scarcity timers that don’t work properly. The clock finishes counting down and the price doesn’t go up.
- Testimonials swapped in that use stock photos to mislead consumers, or results nobody actually got.
- Claims added after approval that wouldn’t have passed the review in the first place.
JVZoo spot checks products constantly and checks every top selling product daily. On top of that, our POTD team does its own additional review before we put the JVZoo POTD stamp of approval on anything. If the page has changed since it was signed off, that’s what will surface it.
None of this is us asking for a flat page. Urgency works and social proof works, and we’ve got no problem with either. The rule is simply that the page people are buying from has to match the page that was approved. Real deadline, real testimonial, real limit.
There’s a practical upside to getting this right. Pages built on claims that don’t hold up bring refunds and chargebacks with them, and that hurts your affiliates and your own account standing long before it ever affects your POTD chances.
How you work with our team
Our support staff deal with a lot of vendors, and the way you’ve spoken to them in the past is part of the picture. Nobody expects you to be delighted when something goes wrong. We do expect the conversation to stay civil.
Your product’s numbers
Once all of the above checks out, we get into stats.
Affiliate spread. We want to see a good number of affiliates making sales rather than one or two partners doing all the lifting. Broad promotion tells us the offer converts for different lists, not just one.
The whole funnel, not just the bundle. Most buyers are cookied early because of pre-mailing, so bundle sales on their own don’t tell us much about how the offer really performs. We look at the full picture.
Front end volume. This is the big one for us. POTD is about getting customers into circulation, so the lower ticket part of your funnel carries the most weight. A funnel bringing in a high number of buyers at the front is exactly what we want to promote.
Clean tracking. We know the tricks. Skipping the sales page, sending traffic straight to cart, anything that props up an EPC or conversion rate that isn’t real. We can see it in the data and it works against you rather than for you. Genuine numbers, even if they’re lower, will always do better here.
How to put yourself in the best position
- Tick the POTD eligibility option in the product editor before you launch
- Clear any negative balance
- Leave your sales page as it was approved. If you need to change something, get it reviewed again
- Get your support inbox under control so our team doesn’t have to step in
- Watch your refund rate and fix whatever is causing it
- Build a front end that converts and price it so volume is achievable
- Recruit widely so your sales aren’t coming from two affiliates
- Let people see your sales page. Direct to cart links might flatter your stats for a day, but they cost you here
Who picks it
POTD is chosen by a separate team who work through it on their own. Nobody in JVZoo management has any input, which means messaging us about it has no effect on the outcome. That’s deliberate. It’s the only way affiliates can trust the badge, and it’s the only way you can trust that the vendor who got it yesterday didn’t get it because they know someone.
If you didn’t get it
It isn’t a judgement on you and it isn’t a door closing. The first thing to check is whether the eligibility option was actually selected in the product editor, because that’s the most common reason a product never reaches the team at all.
Beyond that, plenty of vendors who missed out on their first launch picked it up on their second or third once their numbers and account history caught up. Everything we look at is listed above, so you can see exactly where to put your effort.
One last thing worth saying plainly. Sending messages to JVZoo team members, executives or owners where you threaten them, call them names, or otherwise try to bully your way onto the POTD list guarantees exactly one thing. You will not make the list.
